Turkey’s Longest Post-Tensioned Junction Bridge: Antalya Mevlana Post-Tensioned Bridge

A Success Story from Sunko Proje: Mevlana Junction Post-Tensioned Bridge

The Mevlana Junction Post-Tensioned Bridge Project, initiated by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, has been completed with design and supervision services provided by Sunko Proje, significantly easing the city’s traffic flow. The three-level junction and post-tensioned bridge constructed within the scope of the project stand out as one of Turkey’s largest span overpasses.

Technical Details of the Project

The Mevlana Junction Post-Tensioned Bridge Project commenced in January 2015 and was completed and opened to traffic within the same year. By connecting Adnan Menderes Boulevard and Kızılırmak Streets, the junction ensures uninterrupted traffic flow. The post-tensioning technology used in the construction has not only increased the durability of the structure but also provided an aesthetically superior appearance.

Turkey’s Longest Span Post-Tensioned Bridge Project

The post-tensioned bridge at Mevlana Junction earned the title of Turkey’s longest span post-tensioned bridge at the time of its construction. With a span reaching 55 meters, this length marks a first in Turkey.

Features of the the Bridge

  • Length: 375 meters
  • Span: 55 meters (Turkey’s longest span post-tensioned junction)
  • Materials: 8000 cubic meters of concrete, 800 tons of iron
  • Seismic Isolators: 24 sliding bearings, used for the first time in Turkey
  • Post-Tensioning Materials: A total of 110 kilometers of steel cable was used

Role of Sunko Proje

Sunko Proje undertook the design and supervision services of the Mevlana Junction. The on-site casting and post-tensioning technologies used in the project once again highlighted Sunko Proje’s innovative approach and expertise in engineering. Equipped with seismic isolators, the bridge sets an example in terms of both safety and durability.

Contribution to Antalya Traffic

The Mevlana Junction ensures uninterrupted traffic flow by eliminating congestion caused by traffic lights. Consequently, transportation in the area has become faster and more efficient. The project has significantly alleviated city traffic in Antalya and has been well-received by the city’s residents.

Future Steps

Sunko Proje continues to sign projects across Turkey with innovative engineering solutions. The company is committed to developing projects that strengthen the country’s infrastructure with post-tensioned bridges and other modern construction techniques.
